Extinction
God I hope this movie gets made. It sounds like it could be one of the best Sci Fi movies to come along in a long time. From Cinescape.com.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has snagged a science fiction film pitch called Extinction. According to Variety, the pitch was made by the creative team of Laura Harckom and Chris Leone for a figure in the low-six against mid-six figures. The eventual film will tell the story of an earth 300 years in the future when mankind has been destroyed by a worldwide plague. When a computer virus turns up in the still functioning robot survivors of earth, it seems the only way to save themselves is to bring the human race back from the grave courtesy of stored DNA samples.

The project was initially pitched as an animated feature, but Sony preferred live-action. Harckom explained the reasoning to the trade saying, "We pitched it as animation, but with the advent of CGI in films like Star Wars and The Mummy, they said, ÔWhy not do this live action with CGI?Õ ThereÕs naturally a lot of interest in doing this after the success of The Matrix, and this is sort of Matrix-esque."

"Hollywood Pictures' MISSION TO MARS" is cosponsoring Planetfest '99 (December 3-5). This year's Planetfest is scheduled to coincide with the "Mars Polar Lander" touching down on the south pole of Mars.

My guess is that there will be some images from the movie M2M shown at the "Planetfest", if not actual scenes from the film.
