Blast From the Past - Jaws : Review

With the Memorial Day weekend come and gone I was able to catch some great movies on TV that are only shown every once and a while. My favorite Spielberg film besides the Indiana Jones series, Jaws is the perfect summer holiday Horror film.

Set on the island of Amity, Jaws is a film about a killer great white shark attacking the island's waters and viciously killing a young girl. Not wanting to draw any panic to the Fourth of July tourists the Mayor of the island declares the first death as a mere boating accident. Police Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and marine scientist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) know the real truth behind the death. With the tourists arriving, another local boy is killed and pandemonium erupts. The towns people and the tourists fear for their lives and are afraid to even get close to the water. Police Chief Brody then hires local shark hunter/fisherman extraordinaire Quint (Robert Shaw) to take Hooper and himself on a charter to find and kill the beast.

With as many problems that this movie had during production, from the robotic shark not working to bad weather, its still amazing that this film was even finished. The sure size of the shark is what makes the film. To this day when I go swimming, even in a pool, I still look around for something coming up to snap my leg off. With memorable quotes and a great opening sequence to grab the viewers attention, this film is on a lot of my friends top film lists as well as mine.

"Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark's in the water. Our shark."
