Blast From the Past - The Road Warrior : Review

Probably my favorite Mel Gibson movie and the most popular movie of the series, The Road Warrior stands alone in movie history. It was one of the very first films to have the idea of a post-appocolyptic world and what might happen if we all decided to nuke the hell out of each other.

Roaming the highways of post-apocalyptic Australia, years after he avenged his wife, son and his partner who were murdered by the motorcycle gang led by the evil Toecutter. Burnt out former Australian policeman Max Rockatansky is searching for sources of fuel and stumbles upon a gasoline refinery home to a community of survivors. Max finds the community is being attacked by a band of brutal motorcyclists led by Humangus and his finest warrior, Wez, who bid to loot all the gasoline from the refinery for themselves. The community hires Max to help the community transport the gasoline across the highway but Humangus and his cronies are not far behind.

This movie has the best car chase scene probably ever shot. The last 20 or so minutes of the film is nothing but cars blowing up, people getting killed in cool ways, guns being fired and pure intensity. Many films have tried to replicate the "car chase" and have failed miserably. (I mean they even tried it in Mad Max:Beyond Thunderdome and it still sucked.) I remember when I first saw this film (as an 8 year old kid) I thought that Max was betrayed by the community but as I got older I realized that it was all part of the plan and that Max was bad ass. Since then my fascination in all three films have become at a high of sorts since the night I was dubbed Madd Matt for obvious reasons. If you haven't seen this movie I highly recommend it to any one who loves a good old car chase.
